’58 Bulls on ESPN

Just stumbled on this amazing story about the 1958 University at Buffalo Bulls football team. It’s rather long, but worth dipping into for the tale of why the team turned down an invite to the Tangerine Bowl that year — the only bowl invite in the school’s history, as it’s turned out.

My own sports story is that I’ve managed to slip into the finals of the intramural racquetball tournament here at UB. I’ll be playing a guy who looks like an absolute monster early next week for the title. For better or worse, I will be accepting the challenge. Wish me luck.

Good luck with the racquetball game. Of course, I believe that my new svelte self would give you a run for your money.

    steve–

thanks. and i’m sure you’re right. i can’t say that i’m qualitatively better than i was last spring, and i’m not in as good shape, certainly. just don’t have the time to work out. so i guess i owe it all to you and john for making me the player i am today, and for teaching me to be such a gentleman on the court.

    go OU tonight, eh?

  3. steve says:

Go OU, indeed. Absolute domination. Wish you two could have been here. Samuel left at halftime because it was cold; I guess I raised him wrong. 🙂

    Dajte, Soonersi!

I wish we could be there, too. Wow!

As for Samuel, don’t forget that he had stayed with us till almost-the-end when we were at that soccer game in Maribor. I remember it was freezing out! (Has it really been six years since then?!)

    Good luck, man!

update: not playing yet. big match postponed till next week — a good thing, as i’ve got some kind of flu.

meanwhile: i can’t believe the wackiness that is the BCS. So now OU is marginally behind UT, and both teams need to beat the crap out of lesser teams to prove which one’s better, while their coaches go on a PR blitz that will make the presidential campaign look like a sunday school greeting… OU has a better shot since their loss came earlier, though it was against UT, while UT is playing a crappier team than OU this week.

    somebody needs to fix this!

  7. Andrew N says:

Obama has pledged to fix it, along with global warming, AIDS, continental drift, and ennui.

I posted the top 5 pitchers. Check it out.
