reading series June 13, 2003: Cassie Lewis and K. Silem Mohammad Cassie Lewis is a young poet who I met through Stephie Young in the past year. I knew nothing about her work prior to this evening, except that she has been quite active in publishing postcard poem books with Stephie and other poet penpals across the world. Kasey had given a hilarious reading at Small Press Traffic, performing his "flarf" poems with much enthusiasm and humor. I was thrilled to host both of them, and wasn't disappointed, although I did miss the toy megaphone that Kasey had used to such effect in the SPT reading. Cassie's poems were supple and smooth, and she read with quiet confidence from a manuscript that she's working on. Kasey has a nice book out called hovercraft, and he read from his new manuscript Deer Head Nation. |
