Wow, summer just flew by! So much to report, but I'll keep it to the absolutely pertinent.

First of all, a new slate of readings for the fall, both at my pad and Stephanie Young's, with more possibly on the way. This includes a reading for the first four poets published by Modest Proposal Press, a collective that I founded for current and former students of Diane di Prima, to be held later next month at Bird & Beckett Books in Glen Park. Meanwhile, some of the poets that will be featured in my series include Stephen Berry, Marcia Roberts, Rusty Morrison, Mary Burger, and Pireeni Sundaralingam, and Stephie's got a smashing lineup for this fall, too.

I'm also pleased to announce the publication of a new little chapbook of mine, The Downwinders, which grew out of a project in Tom Clark's Ezra Pound class last fall. Read about: Roy Horn's mangling by Mantecore the Tiger; how a "sex surrogate" goes about plying her trade; former Detroit Tiger Jack Morris's reaction to female reporters being allowed in the locker room; the amazing glow-in-the-dark dog; and Bethany Hamilton's tangle with a Tiger Shark in the ocean. These cute little hand-sewn books, complete with letter-press covers (thanks to Ryan Newton) are available for $5 plus 83 cents postage. If you order now, I'll even throw in a free Boys Against Lethargic Language Systems (BALLS) t-shirt.

Finally, my pal Jason Linetzky sends out a call for short films for his annual Cole Valley Film Festival. Here's the pitch:

To filmmakers, friends of filmmakers, and movie lovers... we're looking for you!

Our Call for Submissions is free and open to all, as long as your movie (film, VHS, DVD) is under 20 minutes in length. All genres welcomed: documentary, animation, experimental, narrative fiction, ... If you're into combining live music with film, we'd like to know. Preference to Bay Area artists as the "Festival" originated and is held in our San Francisco backyard.

****** Submission Deadline: Friday, September 17, 2004 *****

The screening will take place under the stars, on the lovely Fall evening of Saturday, October 2, 2004. As always, fresh popcorn will be served.

So spread the word, send us your movies, and prepare to get your neighbors into your Shorts!
