Charles Barkley is outraged that Turner Gill, UB’s (black) football coach who just led the Bulls to the MAC title, was passed over for a recent head coaching job…
Gill was just signed to a new contract at UB through 2013…

*there’s a story behind this, about why Detroit still has two newspapers and why they do things in concert, but I’ll have to go into that another time.
Gill would have been a strong coach in an SEC weak historically in giving African Americans coaching jobs. And there’s one fewer now that Croom resigned.
Of course, giving the Auburn job to a coach who may have made Iowa State worse (how??) makes Barkley’s suggestion of racism even stronger.
i hadn’t realized gill was one of the coaches passed over for this job… if he keeps winning at UB, sadly, I doubt he will finish his current contract.
