    Note:

Bruce Conner was a film / collage / painter / sculptor artist-of-all-trades active on the west coast from the 1950s onward. There was a wonderful retrospective of his work at the old De Young Museum I think sometime around 2000, with a two-part color plate catalog that I regrettably never purchased. I saw him once at Bird & Beckett in Glen Park; he lived in the neighborhood and frequently attended readings there.

My favorite story about him is from Bruce Ackley of Rova: once during the 80s when the band was playing a show in a local club, they saw some red lights blinking on and off from the crowd after every song. Turned out that some goofball was wearing crazy sunglasses with lights on them, making them blink instead of clapping like everyone else. It was Bruce Conner.

Anyway, this might be the first-ever music video. And yes, it’s that Toni Basil — who went on to one-hit-wonderdum with “Hey Mickey!”
